Christ Episcopal Church Day School’s (CECDS) Board of Advisors, consisting of seven church members, governs the school. The Board recommends to the Vestry of Christ Church Parish, Kent Island the hiring of the Director, the annual tuition fees, and the annual school budget. The Director has a seat and voice on the Board, but no vote. The Director must hold a college degree and have recent early childhood experience. The Director oversees the hiring of all school staff. Currently, five full-time teachers, one part-time teacher, four full-time assistants, three part-time assistants, a music specialist/assistant, an administrative assistant, a nurse consultant, and a treasurer are employed with the school. Teachers sign contracts for employment from August to May, based on enrollment at the school. Requirements for teachers include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or 120 semester hours of college credit and knowledge of children’s development and growth. Assistants are required to be able to determine cognitive, social, and physical needs of children and be knowledgeable of growth and development of children. When substitutes are needed, they are selected from a pre-approved list.

Staff Biographies

Sally Campion

Sally has been with CECDS since 1996, first as president of the PTO, then as a substitute teacher, an assistant teacher, and finally a classroom teacher. She attended Duke University in Durham, NC and Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Elementary and Special Education. Her teaching certificate is from the state of New York. She has lived on Kent Island since 1995 with her husband Mike, and their two children, Emily and Nick, both of whom are CECDS graduates. She enjoys home decorating, traveling, reading, and working in her garden. She also volunteers at Animal Resource Foundation and, as a result, has four gigantic dogs.

Becky Cournow

Becky has been a teacher at CECDS since 2002. Originally from Richmond, VA, she graduated from Virginia Tech. The happy mother of two boys, she spends much of her time following their sports activities. If she can find the free time, she enjoys scrapbooking, Scrabble, gardening, and reading. Her biggest regret…that her boys were too old to attend CECDS when she moved to Kent Island.

Misty Long

This is Misty's third year as an assistant teacher at CECDS following the year before as a substitute. She earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Her  daughters, Savannah abd Alyssa Brooke are graduates of CECDS. .Misty and her husband enjoy theme parks, the ocean and watching their girls sing and dance.

Debbie Marinucci

Debbie began her career at CECDS as a substitute teacher in 1989 and joined the team as an assistant teacher in 1999. She graduated from Anne Arundel Community College with an Associate Arts degree in General Studies. She is married with three children who all graduated from CECDS. She enjoys all outdoor activities and watching her children compete in go-cart racing all over the country.

Martha Morotti

Martha began at CECDS in 1996 as the first treasurer of the PTO and as a substitute teacher. She quickly became an assistant teacher to Sandi Sparks and then moved on to her own classroom as a lead teacher. She left CECDS in January 2004 when her third son was born. She returned in 2007 as a 3-day Nursery teacher. In the Fall of 2009 Martha became the Administrative Assistant /bookeeper.  Martha graduated from Washington College with a Bachelor degree in Economics; and is currently taking courses to pursue her master's degree in elementary education. She owns a seafood business with her husband in Severna Park. All 3 sons graduated from CECDS. She enjoys gardening, reading, going to the beach, teaching Sunday school, spending time with family and cheering her oldest boys at soccer and track meets.

Lisa Oesterling

Lisa has been the Director at CECDS since 2000. She served one year as the Interim Director/teacher in the 1999-2000 school year and prior to that was a teacher at CECDS since 1991. She has a Bachelors degree from John Carroll University as well as post graduate studies in special education from Cleveland State University. She has three sons who all graduated from CECDS. Her hobbies include traveling, ice hockey, reading, and fitness.

Lisa Pullen

 This is Lisa's 3rd year assisting Mrs. Campion with a 5-Day Pre-K class. Mrs. Pullen has 3 children, Lauren , Quincie ,      and Lester . The other members of the family include 2 dogs, Hershey and Charlie, and of course Mr. Pullen. They        have owned a local busines(Hidden Fence) for 17 years, keeping our dogs safe. As a family they enjoy traveling, hiking, and bike riding.

Sandi Sparks

Sandi has been teaching at CECDS for 14 years. She was born and raised in Annapolis, MD and graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1979. Her two children both graduated from CECDS. She enjoys reading, walking on the Cross Island trail, and spending time with her family. She has lived “on this side” of the bridge since 1987 and no longer considers herself to be a chicken necker; however, locals would certainly disagree!

Beth Judy

Beth has been a music specialist at CECDS for over 30 years. She accompanies the children on the piano in their music classes as well as for their special programs. Beth studied music at Greenbrier College in Lewisburg, WV and Shenandoah Music Conservatory in Winchester, VA. She has three children and four grandchildren.

The Reverend Dr. David Robert Green, Chaplain

Father David was raised in western Pennsylvania and has served parishes in Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland during the past 20 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts, a master's degree in theology and pastoral ministry, and a doctorate in spiritual direction. He and his wife, Jenifer, have been married for 25 years and have three children: Megan , Jonathan , and Mary Hannah . CECDS chaplaincy is his favorite aspect of ministry as rector of Christ Church Parish, Kent Island.
